Plans for 3rd Suvarnabhumi runway,
domestic terminal to go to Cabinet
BANGKOK, Aug 23 (TNA) -- Airports of
Thailand (AoT) will submit its plans to construct a third
runway and a domestic passenger terminal at Suvarnabhumi
Airport to the Cabinet in October, AoT president Serirat
Prasutanond said on Sunday.
If approved by Cabinet,
both projects will be financed by AoT at a cost of about Bt10
billion and could be completed within three years, Mr Serirat
said.
The plans for the domestic passenger terminal
have been completed, while concerned officials are now
studying the environmental impact report submitted by the
Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and
Planning.
Initially, it was determined that a third
runway, if built, would in effect reduce the impact of noise
on people living near the airport, because it would spread
noise pollution over a wider area and reduce the number of
landings and departures per runway, he explained.
Construction of the third runway will
not hamper services provided by the first and second runways,
he added. (TNA)
